A riot of wildflowers and edibles describes Bruno and Julie's gardens, but look closer and you will see an underlying purposefulness. Their rain garden can be seen through the openings of a colorfully painted fence from the sidewalk and for the tour Bruno (a biologist by trade) will be available to tell you how the garden functions and the various native plants, their likes, and what bugs and birds they support. The rain garden is about 60 square feet in size, with morning shade and afternoon sun, and designed to capture runoff via a downspout from the southern roof. Iris, coreopsis, milk weed, cup plant, and yarrow are among the wildflowers in the garden. Take a walk along the fence and boulevard to see a great sampling of other wildflowers including beardtongue penstemon, cone flower, black-eyed susan, and blazing stars. If you are interested to learn more about the design philosophy of this garden, art and landscape restoration ecology you may want to read: Bruno’s Garden.
